I did not mean to start a debate about to clip or not to clip. I am going to think long about the clipping. I just hate the thought of losing one my birds. Most of the time we only let them out to fly in our master bathroom and only when we are in the room with them. Sometimes with our friends over we bring into the main part of the house which is all open. The kitchen, dining and living room with a fireplace. I understand both sides. Especially peewee my tiels is awesome to watch fly and after finally molting out a poor clip job I hate the thought of taking away his new happiness. I will make a decision soon. My budgies are extremely wild and sometimes its traumatic to get them back in the cages. My other birds besides my female tiel and a pair of breeding quakers are velcro birdies and these are the ones that would truly break my heart if something were to happen. Thanks for both sides of the issue and sorry once again pammy.

Sorry to hear she hasn't returned my previous budgie, Birdie was a real gift. I found him in my back yard one morning with a broken wing, took him in, and he was the best budgie I've ever owned because he loved people and whenever the dogs barked, he chirped in a way that sounded like he was barking himself! We had him for 8-9 years before he passed. So in any event, you can pray that someone did find her [who was unaware of your situation], took her in, and is taking good care of her. I know it's hard to think about but maybe it's a silver lining for you to think about!

Thank you, Lisa. I do hope that's what has happened with Noel.

Have you tried contacting local vets? It is possible that Noel was found by someone and kept as a pet - like Lisa's Birdie and my friend's Lucky.

I'm also going to (right now) put a notice about Noel on my local online yard sale site. Maybe someone will speak up that they found her. Thanks.

There's no debate... If you want your birds safe near you, clip those wings feathers! I still regret one of my worst mistakes of not clipping Mikah's wings feathers... You love your bird? You want it all the time with you? Cool, clip those wings!

April, thank you for thinking of Noel and for asking. No, no one has seen a glimpse of her. Just this very evening, my eyes played a trick on me and I thought I spied a quick flash of bright green far across the field behind my house. I watched again for a long time and nothing.

Your welcome I am so sorry. I had this happen to a cockatiel name fluffy1. My mom was clean the bird cage and she scream. I ran to see what happen, and she said fluffy1 flew out of the cage and never came back. Hugs

I am so sad for your loss!! It has been terribly windy here, too (Santa Ana version) so I can envision a small puff of air carrying Noel to new places to explore. I hope that Noel is able to find the way home to the nest and settle back in a much more subdued little adventurer. Please don't give up hope yet - the winds will die back and you may be surprised. Just let those lovely flock-mates sing Noel home!
Praying for you
