Hey, everybody, I have some very sad news to share. This afternoon, shortly after 1:00, my beautiful little Noel flew out the door and is gone. It was my fault. I was struggling to get something big and cumbersome out the door, and my birds have never shown the least bit of interest in the doorway. Suddenly she whizzed past my ear and that was that. I haven't caught one single glimpse of her again, during the many trips I've made outside to look for her and do my best flock call. It's so windy today and she's so tiny. Her little self was just gusted away. Now she's out there somewhere in the dark, and she isn't likely to find a neat little plate of chopped vegetables sprinkled with seeds, nor friendly birds who will take her in. She's not wild, but she's not tame either. She will never let somebody catch her. Poor lovely little girl. I'm so sad she's gone.
My remaining birds have been rather subdued. How they must wonder where she is. Goodbye, little one.

So sorry to read this!!! If you think there's still a chance of her being out there somewhere maybe take one of the other budgies in a small cage out with you maybe she'll listen to his flock calling? Then use a towel to catch her? (I know we hate using towels but it might increase chances of catching her)

Oh, I'm so sorry to about Noel! I think you should try the suggestion of taking one or more of your birds out to try the flock calling. She may have survived the night and is hiding within walking distance. I hope you can find her.

So sorry to hear this, I do like the idea of letting the other birds flock call.

I'm sorry to hear this Pammy! This makes me think back to when my sister put Shasta outside because he was too noisy for her and she hated him flying (to his playground on top of his cage). I hope you find her!
I also agree with putting the other birds outside and letting them flock call.

Thank you all so much. All the rest of yesterday and so far this morning, I have opened the windows (it's decently warm enough) and put my birds' cage by it so that Noel will hear them flock calling and singing, if she is close. I have been going outside and watching for her. I may try taking birds outside later, but other than Mistletoe, they are tremendously hard to catch. If she is anywhere out back she will hear them from the window. I keep hoping I'll look up and see a tiny patch of bright green on the other side of the window. Kringle, Clausy & December are being particularly vocal this morning. How I hope Noel hears them!
Lisa, fortunately it's DECEMBER who is Natey's special friend, and she is still here. Thank you for thinking of him.

Please don't take offense I hope you get reunited with you little Noel

I'd never take offense with you, Lisa. I know you care about my sweet Natey and love my birdies. No problem on the name confusion. My birds do all have Christmas-themed names and it would be hard to keep them straight if I didn't know them personally. …and then there were three….

Pammy, I know you feel bad, and I would too. But, please try not to blame yourself. I know many people that this has happened to. It could have happened to me too. It is a risk of owning birds. We try to give them the best lives we can. Life is full of risks, and we cannot be perfect all the time. Thinking of you. Diana

Thank you so much, Diana. Your words are comforting. As bad as I feel, I'm actually glad it was me holding open the door, and not one of my kids. They'd feel so bad, and I'd kinda secretly wonder if they were being careless. No sightings of Noel today. Not a glimpse since the wind caught under her wings and she was lifted away. It was very windy yesterday. Due to Noel's ability to fly away, Kringle, Clausy, December and Mistletoe all got clipped this evening. Hubby held, I clipped. They are all highly offended right now. I only wish we had done it before my beautiful Noel got lost. It's been needing to happen - the clipping, that is. Our birds were flying to the ceiling fan, the tops of curtains, etc., and pooping all over. This was definitely not okay with Aron. The silver lining is that Natey can catch them now. He is overjoyed. Somewhere else, I posted a picture of Natey loving on Clausy.

What a good way to look at it, Pammy. I'm sure the clipping is a good idea. I wish I could clip Emma, but I can never, never catch her. She will come to me, but I cannot hold her for clipping. She is a very, very powerful flyer.
