I noticed on Bonnie the other day she has a small patch by her beak where it looks like she is missing feathers. I fear it's scalyface. I wouldn't know what to do if it is in fact scaly face. I'm mildly freaking out right now but here are some pictures. I'm sorry if they are bad quality but this is the closest she's ever let me get to her through the cage. I'm very worried. Clyde looks fine. I also read something about looking at her feet, and those also look fine

Also, excuse the poop on the ladder. It sits right below their favorite perching spot. Wednesdays are the days i tear their cages apart to clean

I have no experience with scaly face, but let's see what others say....

How would you feel about taking her to the vet, to make sure what it is?

The thing is i don't think i have any local avian vets. There's an actual animal hospital about an hour from me but that would be super expensive. Plus recently the roads are bad. I want to see if anyone on here knows what it is and if anything i could take her to the bird store and i know they will help me out. They just can't write me a prescription if she needs it. But i may call my dogs' vet and see if they know anyone around here

Well, I know that people sometimes use Vaseline or better yet, Ivermectin, to cure scaly face, but perhaps you should first know for sure that's what it is. Although a small application of Vaseline probably wouldn't hurt her, and could stop the progression of the disease while you wait for somebody who knows more than I do to help you out.

I remember that Budgiebonkers mentioned treating her flock twice a year with Ivermectin. She used the technique of putting it in their water. Another method is to put a drop on the back of the bird.
I don't know what's right for you. However, I think that if I were in this situation I would order some Ivermectin and put it in the water, per BB's instructions. It doesn't seem as tho it would hurt, and it could not only treat Bonnie but also keep it from spreading to the other birds (if that is what Bonnie has). I would treat all of them, if they have been in close contact. I think it would be less risky than waiting, or going to a vet that is not an avian specialist, who may not have good advice.
If you google Ivermectin for scaly face I'm sure you can find a supplier as well as instructions for using it.
That's just what I think and what I would do.
I am sorry you are worried. The thing is, if it is scaly face, it can be very successfully treated. So, that's a very good thing!

Yes i did know about the vaseline. The thing is she is a terror to get out of the cage and she bites.. She hates my hands as it is i couldn't imagine how she would feel after i do that to her. If it is scalyface, vaseline doesn't "cure" it, it just suffocates the parasite so it would take over a week for vaseline to cure it If it comes down to it yes i will do that. I will do anything! I just want to figure out what is wrong

I didn't know i could order it myself i thought it was a Rx. But i also thought the thing that BB used was for something else that could be transmitted to humans. Which i hope isn't scaly face! If it is i will be ordering that tonight. I cannot and will not get my dogs or family sick

I have never heard of scaly face being transmitted to humans or dogs. One of the reasons I would go with the Ivermectin is the difficulty in applying vaseline and the need to be very careful not to bloc the nostrils. I don't think my birds would stand for it.

Me neither. But I know BB's post was something that can be transmitted to both humans and other animals. Know what, I'll search for her post right now. I know it was on this forum

This is something I saved from a discussion back in early November, in case I ever needed it. The supplier is Bird Supply of Ne Hampshire:
"Abba Ivermectin Solution $22.99 55 Ml [B05200555] This Ivermectin Solution makes 1 Gallon by placing the contents of this bottle into 1 Gallon of water. Instructions | All Products Shopping Cart 0 items Manufacturer Info - Abba Seed Homepage - Other products Quick Find Use keywords to find the product you are looking for. Advanced Search Tell A Friend Tell someone you know about this product. Facebook Reviews Write a review on this product! Notifications Notify me of updates to Abba Ivermectin Solution 55 Ml In the evening, just before the birds go to sleep, remove all the drinking water from the cages. The next morning the birds will be nice and thirsty. Vigorously shake the gallon after you add the Ivermectin. Shake the mixture well while adminstering it to the birds. Make sure you use a clean sterilized water container. The birds will drink the solution with gusto. Usually one good drink will help eliminate internal and external parasites, including scaly feet and scaly legs. Leave the water treated with Ivermectin before the birds until they drink all of it or until the next day. Repeat the treatment in two weeks. Many bird fanciers thoughout the world treat all their birds using this method twice a year. Typically in January and after breeding season. Refrigerate any unused mixture."

Know what? My bird store may have this. And I work 2nd shift tomorrow instead of first so I can go there before i go to work. I had a few other errands to run in that direction anyway. Last night i put vitamins in B & C's water. It was the one the store suggested i buy when i got Lucy and said i could give it to them as well. But i will definitely go to the bird store tomorrow. It's almost 7:30 now and they close at 8 tonight so there's no way I can get there tonight
