Thanks Sarah. I'm going to look for those things tomorrow. The picture i posted was off my iphone. I don't have a camera so it isn't the greatest quality. I also didn't realize that the picture you posted was very enlarged.. That being said i think that is what she looks like with the bottom of the cere like that. I'll get a better look tomorrow at her beak. But the area did get larger since i've posted the picture which makes me believe it isn't an injury. Like it looks like shes lost MORE feathers. I'm going to have to look more today.

I apologize if i sound overly paranoid but i want to say i'm positive it's scalyface. Clyde has the white under his cere like the picture Sarah posted. Bonnie's feather loss did get a little bigger. The skin underneath does look inflamed and not healthy. I'm upset it took me this late to realize they are sick. I ordered ivermectin online.. Who knows when it will be here since it's the holidays

Oh, Lisa! I'm sorry you're dealing with this right at Christmas. I hope your little ones recover quickly and are soon feeling good again. How's Lucy? How will you prevent her from getting it?

Hi, Lisa.
I am also sorry you are dealing with this. I hope the medicine comes soon. I think it will. With the medicine, I am sure there will be a recovery.
I certainly don't think you are paranoid. We are often caught between two things--being overly concerned, or feeling we wish we had acted sooner. This is a normal part of being a parent, of children or birds.
It does seem, from what I have read, the ivermectin will not hurt them. In fact, I have wondered if I should treat my birds prophylactally. I have read that it can take considerable time for an infection to become symptomatic--certainly longer than the month quarantine that is recommended.
Keep us posted. I will be thinking about you.

I'm saying this from the posts I've read and in NO way am I suggesting you follow what I'm about to say. My budgies never had this, so I cannot speak from experience and I'm definately no expert. Till the real meds arrive, could you apply vaseline? Since it's much easier to find and is sometimes used to treat scaly face? Again, I'm just asking.

Vaseline is an excellent way to stall the spreading of the mites, and make a start at killing the infestation. I would definitely start using this treatment multiple times a day until the ivermeticine arrives if you are that sure.

I just hope it's at my house soon. Does anyone know how to use it? Do i have to put it ON them?
Vaseline i read does work but it takes a long time and there is absolutely no way i can apply vaseline to my birds every day... They're so wild. And they get all wound up and then they pant so i get nervous because I know they have tiny hearts

I'm going to give Lucy some also. But only once where as for the budgies I may need to do it more than once. Just to be safe. I'm probably going to throw everything out, buy all new perches and new food/water dishes and new toys, once I begin treating them. I have a few questions, if anyone has the answers: 1. What kinds of materials can the mites get into? Like do I have to be concerned about the metal cage? Plastic? Wood? 2. What is the best method to clean these materials in order to disinfect and kill all possible mites that have gotten into the material? 3. Can these mites affect humans or dogs? I ordered it from this website, in case anyone else wanted to see: www.justbirdstuff.com/home.php?cat=253

The medicine should come with instructions about its use. Some is made to go in water, some must be applied to the skin, and some (although usually only sold to vets) must be injected under the skin. You will probably be getting the stuff that needs to go into their drinking water.
Scaly face mites cannot effect mammals, so don't worry about that.
The mites can be spread onto or into pretty much anything. They are like bacteria in that they are microscopic and can be spread almost anywhere by touch. This does not mean that you have to toss everything out the window, however. Like bacteria, the mites cannot last forever without a warm body to harbor them. Also, the mites are vulnerable to lots of different means of cleaning: severe temperature changes, exposure to rubbing alcohol or bleach. Provided you do not have a bleach allergy, I suggest filling your bathtub up with warm water, breaking down your cages and throwing them in along with all the toys, perches and bowls and dumping in a good three or four cups of bleach and just letting it sit for awhile. Soft things like cloth toys or fuzzy ring perches should just be discarded, because they won't survive the cleaning process looking alright or being useful.

I hope it ships quickly, too, Lisa. Have you been able to strong arm any Vaseline onto them in the meantime? Believe me, I understand if you haven't. There is no way mine would allow it either.
How's Lucy?

No vaseline. When i just stuck my hand in to try to get Bonnie she started freaking out. I felt too bad. Lucy seems to be okay but since she was in their cage about 2 or 3 weeks ago i'm going to treat her too. Even if she doesn't have it, it'll be a preventative. The natural perches i have for both Lucy and the budgies i'm thinking of just putting in the freezer for a day or two because it doesn't look like i can get them wet/clean them. I'm going to buy all new toys and new food cups for the budgies - lucy's stuff are stainless steel and my mom puts them in the dishwasher. I'm not worried about the money aspect of buying new things because most of it is fairly inexpensive and i would do anything to make sure they are all happy and healthy!

I wouldn't do the vaseline either. I would find it too traumatic, when there's an alternative. I'm sure they will recover nicely when you get the ivermectin.
