Hi, BB. I thought I remembered that you might treat yours prophylactically. Do you do it twice a year? I am thinking about doing it as a precaution.

I am so sorry you are feeling that way Lisa. I really think that you may be seeing improvement very soon. I know you have been doing the very best you can to take care of Bonnie. There were good reasons that it took this long: You wanted to be sure that it really is Scaly Face; you found a difficult to make a trip to the vet, and it would have been very stressful for the bird; and, really, it's not so long. You only noticed the problem on December 16th, weren't sure what it was, had the holidays to deal with, and ordered the medicine a week ago, even tho I am sure you had a lot to do with the holidays. It's not your fault it took so long to get to you.

I hope so I really do. Yesterday I took everything (and I mean everything) and dipped it in boiling water, held it over the pot to steam, then put most of it in the freezer overnight. I put a few things back in their cage so that they had perches under their feet. I did this all to Lucy's cage also. I'll do it again in a few days. I bought all new toys for my parakeets so I'm throwing most of the old out. I'm going to buy hard boiled eggs tomorrow to give them. I'm so worried! And BB did you give the ivermectin in the water everyday for a week or just the one time?

Lisa, have you seen any improvement in Bonnie?

I want to say I see a very SLIGHT improvement. I believe the area where the feathers were gone, it looks smaller and less inflamed. It did look VERY irritated before treatment. Her beak and cere still look awful, so I'm hoping things will go up from here. I put all their toys back in today, because they were miserable with an empty cage. I bought this "egg mix" thing for their food, it is made from egg biscuit and real egg, (it's made for birds) so I figured that would help them nutrient-wise, although I'm not quite sure they have tried it yet. I hope things get better soon!

I just took this now. As you can see, Clyde NEVER leaves her side.

It's really sweet how they support and try their best to take care of each other!

Update - a scab came off where her skin looked irritated so her feathers and skin look good but her beak and cere are still chalky

This is good progress! You should see areas of a healthier cere shortly, and the white areas on the beak should shrink some. Her beak will remain pitted and scarred until she can grow it out, however. Like a bruise under your finger nail.

Oh good! I'm so happy that this is progress. I'm so relieved. I want to thank all of you who responded to this or show any interest in Bonnie's well-being.

We really care about Bonnie (and you!) a lot. I'm so happy she is showing such improvement. I hope she is feeling better, too.
